Whale Watching in Baja California Sur

Experience a close encounter with the magnificent Pacific Gray Whale, in San Ignacio Lagoon Baja California Sur. Our panga boats, guided by our legendary tour guides, will bring you as close to these majestic creatures as they allow us to be. As the gentle whales approach, you might have the rare opportunity to reach out and touch these elegant beings (not guaranteed since it is the whale’s decision to interact with us), creating unforgettable memories that can be life changing.

What to Pack

Weather during whale watching season varies with sunshine, wind, and rain. Use our packing essentials guide below to plan for a comfortable stay at San Ignacio Lagoon.

Dress in Layers

Be sure to wear layers as the day’s temperatures can fluctuate significantly.

Bring a Rain Coat

Expect the possibility of rain, and be prepared to get splashed by the waves and the whales.

Wear a Hat

Shield your face and neck from harmful sun exposure by wearing a hat with a wide brim.

Bring Sunscreen

For optimal protection, choose a biodegradable and reef-friendly sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30.

Waterproof Shoes

Shield your feet from the elements and stay comfortably dry with waterproof footwear.

Reusable Bottle

Bring your own water bottle and help minimize your environmental impact.

Bring a camera

Don’t forget to capture unforgettable moments on your trip!

Dress in layers that you can peel off or put on. Temperatures can vary throughout the day depending on the sun, clouds, wind, and waves. Wear a raincoat (you may get sprayed during the boat ride), sun protection (hat, sunglasses, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen) and protective waterproof footwear for walking to and from the boat (your feet and ankles may get wet). Please don’t walk barefoot—there are very sharp shells and rocks. Please bring your own reusable water bottle (to minimize the single use plastic bottles). We have containers of purified water to refill your bottle at our camp and on the boats.
